A man who has been apprehended in handcuffed with his face blocked out

A man in Toti was recently arrested for stealing from a homeowner who out of pure kindness, took him into their home. The suspect (name has been redacted) fled and attempted to remain on the run, forcing the family to contact Amanzimtoti SAPS.

George Snodey of CCPO (the Community Crime Prevention Organisation Amanzimtoti) stated that the individual had been living with the family for several weeks, and ran away with household goods and items that included jewellery and clothing.

According to George Snodey, “The homeowner called Amanzimtoti SAPS who arrived at the gate, sat in their vehicle and told the family that they cannot open a case because they didn’t have insurance. They made contact with me and asked me what options they have. I then made contact with Colonel Kitching of Toti SAPS who didn’t hesitate to send a van back to the premises and allow the people to open a case.”

Suspect Promptly Seized

On Friday, the 29th - CCPO received an alert on the suspect's location and together with members of our ET Rapid Response team, proceeded to Queensmead Mall in Umbilo.

Snodey added, “After about a two-hour stakeout, the suspect appeared wearing the homeowner’s clothing. He was quickly apprehended and handed over to an Amanzimtoti SAPS detective.”

More items were recovered at a shop in Amanzimtoti where the suspect had sold the remaining stolen property.

Snodey further added that all residents need to be extremely wary about taking strangers into their homes.
